Jack Brown

Jack Brown

Overview

Jack is Coast Salish, with ties to both the Puyallup and Yakama, and water runs through every part of his life. He scuba dives, fishes for salmon, boats, and pulls canoes. Last summer he was a lead puller on his Canoe Family’s annual Canoe Journey, paddling over 200 miles in a seven-person canoe in two weeks. That connection is cultural as much as personal; these are the same waters his community has relied on since time immemorial. He’s finishing a Marine Biology degree at the University of Washington, where he came to marine science after three years studying electrical and computer engineering. Alongside school he spent nearly five years as a service technician assistant for Ford, working daily with tools and heavy equipment, and worked at the wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ Intellectual House, where he learned to connect with all kinds of people and manage a space with patience. Jack looks forward to putting that mix of technical skill, on-the-water experience, and care for clean waterways to work protecting the waters he grew up on.
