Washington Sea Grant (WSG) holds a biennial request for proposals for one- to two-year research projects from investigators at academic and research institutions throughout the state of Washington. Funded projects contribute to WSG and state priority information needs by advancing knowledge in one of the four WSG program areas: environmental literacy and workforce development, resilient communities and economies, healthy coastal ecosystems, and sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
WSG is particularly interested in funding projects that engage and address issues of concern to Washington Pacific coastal communities. WSG also anticipates partnering with the Puget Sound Partnership to fund projects that align with the Puget Sound Science Work Plan.
Washington Sea Grant 2025 Request for Proposals
Funding Cycle: February 1, 2026 – January 31, 2028
Washington Sea Grant (WSG) requested proposals for the funding cycle beginning February 1, 2026. The selected projects address issues of importance in Washington’s marine and coastal waters and align with the WSG 2024–2027 Strategic Plan. Specific priorities for this Request for Proposals (RFP) included 1) issues of concern to Washington’s Pacific coastal communities or 2) those that align with the Puget Sound Partnership’s Science Work Plan.
Through a competitive review process, seven projects were selected to receive a total of about $2 million in funding.
WSG Outreach Workshop
This workshop, held in February 2025, briefed potential PIs on the Sea Grant program, introduced WSG staff, and facilitated collaborative and innovative plans for outreach and engagement.
