Description
Shore Friendly provides Puget Sound waterfront landowners with expert advice, technical assistance, and financial incentives to help them voluntarily choose alternatives to shoreline armor. This approach is complementary to regulatory approaches for managing shorelines because it can stimulate stewardship activities not required under law and provide a gentler approach for engaging with property owners.
This report describes and analyzes the first six years (2019-2025) of Shore Friendly as an established program within the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). It was commissioned by the Puget Sound Partnership and WDFW’s Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program (ESRP) Shore Friendly program to compile information from the six local programs, identify program successes and challenges, and provide program management recommendations for the current six-year iteration of Shore Friendly.
