Despite the prominent role of seafood in Washington’s culture and economy, many residents lack clear, trustworthy information about the seafood available to them. At the same time, small-scale seafood businesses often face barriers to reaching consumers directly, including gaps in knowledge or connections. Strengthening both sides of the seafood consumer-harvester relationship helps build a more resilient, transparent and locally rooted seafood sector across the Pacific Northwest.
Through accessible education and outreach, WSG helps consumers confidently buy, store and prepare seafood that is safe, sustainable and locally caught or cultivated. WSG also equips seafood harvesters and businesses with training in direct marketing, product handling and business practices that expand their reach and strengthen the regional seafood supply chain.
